Two women die from flu virus in Tulare County

In the first week of January, there were 1,750 new confirmed flu-associated hospitalizations in OH compared to 925 the week before. There have been 3,854 total flu-associated hospitalizations in OH since flu season began last October.

In Dallas County, 18 people have died of the flu, according to Dallas County Health and Human Services.

The department said last week that the state was experiencing "the highest number of seasonal cases this early since influenza tests became reportable" and that Arizona hasn't seen widespread cases until February in the past two years.

H3N2 has been responsible for some of the worst flu seasons in the US in recent years, including the 2006-2007, 2012-2013, and 2014-2015 bouts.

KRMC saw 39 flu patients the week before Christmas, 78 the week after Christmas and 86 in the first week of the New Year, spokeswoman Teri Williams said.

CDC recommends that healthcare providers prescribe one of two antiviral drugs as a second line of defense as soon as possible to patients with confirmed or suspected influenza who are hospitalized, have severe illness, or may be at higher risk for flu complications. "But people who have had it can practically tell you to the minute when it hit because they pretty much were down for the count for three days".
