Rapper and former Bad Boy artist Craig Mack has passed away.

Mack - who launched to hip-hop acclaim with the platinum hit "Flava in Ya Ear" in 1994 before being overshadowed by fellow artists such as the Notorious B.I.G. - died of heart failure at a hospital near his Walterboro, S.C., home Monday.

Craig Mack released two albums in the 90s - Project: Funk da World and Operation: Get Down. Producer Erick Sermon said that Mack and he were working on an album prior to his death.

This story is developing. No word on if any of that music or any part of the unfinished documentary will be released. "It was something I wanted people to enjoy, but it was cut short because he was very religious and wanted to go to church". "He was prepared for whatever comes, to go home to the Lord. He wasn't scared. He was ready". In 2012, it was reported the rapper had joined the conservative Pentecostal Christian church, Overcomer Ministry.

While The Notorious B.I.G. later became more closely associated with Bad Boy's success, Mack's "Flava" was the first of a massive 1-2 punch that anchored the label and its "Big Mack Attack" on the Rap world.
