PDP leader Drabu recently triggered a controversy by saying that issue of Jammu and Kashmir was not a political problem or it was a conflict state.

The Mehbooba-led People's Democratic Party (PDP) Monday sent a letter to Raj Bhavan informing governor N. N. Vohra about the decision.

Drabu, while speaking at the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry event in New Delhi on March 9, said, "Don't see J&K as a conflict state and political issue".

Opposition National Conference also slammed Drabu for his statement and alleged that PDP is acting as second fiddle of BJP to facilitate the rightwing agenda in the state.

"If PDP thinks that Kashmir is not a "political issue" but is according to them a "social issue", the very basis of the politics of PDP and that of its founder Late Mufti Sahab comes into question".

Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti reportedly agreed with party leaders that Haseeb Drabu had crossed the line.

"PDP, since its inception, has considered Kashmir issue as political".

"Our party's stand has always been that Kashmir is a political issue and needs a political solution", the minister added. "Therefore you are advised to explain as to why statement detrimental to the party interests was made".

The PDP leader said there was a dire need to include "concerns" of the people of the state and not to get lost in the "forest of symbols".

Madni said ever since the PDP was formed, it had relentlessly pursued the Kashmir resolution through reconciliation and dialogue, both at internal and external levels.

Haseeb Drabu had made the controversial statement at an event in New Delhi.

Haseeb Drabu was chairman and CEO of the Jammu & Kashmir Bank from 2005 to 2010.
