Ravens were the only other serious suitor for Jarvis Landry

After one hard season, the Browns threw DeShone Kizer away. General manager Brandon Beane and Sean McDermott are up to something, it's just a matter of time before everything is revealed. Is Taylor just an insurance policy if Cleveland doesn't land this season's free agency big fish? Teams can begin officially signing players March 14.

Now that the initial shock of the trade has worn off, it's time to analyze the deal. The Browns are involved in three of them. They agreed to acquire quarterback Tyrod Taylor from the Buffalo Bills for a third-round draft pick, and agreed to send quarterback DeShone Kizer to the Green Bay Packers for cornerback Damarious Randall.

McCarron wants to start and it's unlikely he would want to compete with Taylor, who led the Bills to their first postseason appearance since 1999.

Smith caught 36 passes for 430 yards and two touchdowns in the 2017 regular season and added 13 receptions for 157 yards and one score in the Eagles' playoff run to the Super Bowl crown. Getting Taylor gives them a vet who can still make plays while letting the rookie sit.

The people confirmed the agreement to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because under NFL rules, no trade can be completed until Wednesday, the start of the league's new year. They're armed with $114 million in salary-cap space, according to NFL Players Association records, but if they can't settle on a new contract with Landry, he'll play next season under the tag.

Landry, 25, has made the Pro Bowl in each of the past three seasons, the two most recent as an alternate. He was the 180th overall selection and the 11th quarterback drafted that year. He hasn't missed a game.

The Browns gave up a fourth-round pick in 2018 and seventh-round pick in 2019 for Landry, who led the National Football League with 112 receptions in 160 targets.

Landry typically plays slot receiver, and the Browns have been disappointed with the production of former first-round draft pick Corey Coleman, who has been injured the past two seasons. As to where Rosen will likely be gone within the first three picks, Mayfield might not hear his named called until the teens. With Gordon on the outside, Landry in the slot and Taylor behind center, the Browns have the makings of a potent attack.

Dumervil, 34, was set to receive a $500,000 roster bonus on Tuesday and would have carried a $4.25 million cap hit in 2018.
