When President Donald Trump follows through on his plan to tax imported steel and aluminum, American farmers will get less money for some crops and pay more for machinery.

Is it just me or is there a contradiction developing at the heart of President Trump's linkage of movement on the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) negotiations to the application of steel and aluminum tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico?

"The economy is stronger than it's been in ages". The world's second-biggest economy, China, was also vocal in its opposition, deriding the tariffs as "a serious attack on normal worldwide trade order".

Brussels has reminded Trump that tit-for-tat trade measures deepened the Great Depression in the 1930s and in the 2000s cost thousands of USA jobs when Washington imposed tariffs on European steel. "But these things are really violent", he continued.

In a tweet earlier this morning, Trump said the USA must show quote "great flexibility and cooperation toward those that are real friends and treat us fairly on both trade and the military". "Do you know quite how much USA steel Canada buys?" said another person familiar with Canada's lobbying effort. "We're an exporting state". He suggested in an earlier meeting with his Cabinet that Australia and "other countries" might be spared, a shift that could soften the global blow amid threats of retaliation by trading partners.

Will Sanders be the next member of Team Trump to step down over this?? "Many of the countries that treat us the worst on trade and on the military are our allies, as they call them", he complained.

Well, that's exactly how Priyanka Chopra surprised her "Ranno" Ranveer Singh by calling him in the middle of the night. The things you talk me into PC, Jesus Christ! She further revealed that she will be returning to Mumbai in a week.

The EU was clear on Friday that it views tariffs and defense as separate. The top European Union trade official Cecilia Malmstroem insisted the entire bloc "should be excluded" from the tariffs as a "close ally", vowing to "seek more clarity" from Washington. He invited some of the workers to speak from the presidential podium, and several said that excessive "dumping" of foreign steel and aluminum had negatively affected their jobs and families.

Despite objections by many business trade groups, by most Democrats and Republicans, and by a number of advisers in the Trump administration, the USA president forged ahead with his plan on Thursday, keeping a promise he made during his 2016 presidential campaign.

As many HEXUS readers will be aware, US President Trump held a meeting with games industry heads yesterday.

Later Friday, officials clarified that the White House wasn't suggesting any change in position from Thursday's announcement. "Congress can not be complicit as the administration courts economic disaster".

"If he doesn't see that there's room to maneuver, he'll create some", said Bozell, president of For America, a conservative grassroots political group.

In the space of a week, US President Donald Trump's steel and aluminum tariffs went from a "no exemptions" plan to one filled with carve-outs for Canada and Mexico, and likely for other other allies and hundreds of imported products not available domestically.
