UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi hosts dinner today; TDP, BJD, TRS not invited

The dinner will be hosted at the 10 pm at the Janpath residence of Sonia Gandhi, is expected to set the tone for opposition unity in the run-up to the next general elections. He also said the leaders reflected tremendous positive energy, warmth and genuine affection.

In the letter, opposition parties have pointed out that there was no discussion on tabling the Finance Bill during the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting and that the government had listed the bill without informing any political party in advance.

Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav said the the effort is on to get the opposition united.

"You can also see NDA allies are also angry". They are losing faith in NDA's leadership.

Talking to media persons after the dinner, AICC media incharge Randeep Singh Surjewala said the dinner aimed at a better dialogue between parties and for friendship.

He said opposition leaders got together to discuss issues in national interest, create bonhomie in the opposition and exchange views. "This is our duty to let it work and the government has been doing everything to ensure that it happens", he said.

The dinner was attended by Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar and his party colleague Tariq Anwar, Trinamool Congress leader Sudip Bandyopadhyay, Tejashwi Yadav and his sister Misa Bharti from the Rashtriya Janata Dal, Omar Abdullah of the National Conference, Kanimozhi of the DMK, Rashtriya Lok Dal President Ajit Singh and Ram Gopal Yadav of the Samajwadi Party.Hemant Soren of JMM, Badruddin Ajmal of AIUDF, Mohd Salim of CPM, D Raja of CPI have also joined the dinner party. The Biju Janata Dal, the Aam Aadmi Party led by Delgi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen chief Asaduddin Owaisi who was once a part of the UPA, the AIADMK, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi, the YSR Congress Party and the Shiv Sena were also not invited to the dinner.

Former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, and senior Congress leaders such as Ghulam Nabi Azad, Mallikarjun Kharge, Ahmed Patel, AK Antony, and Randeep Singh Surjewala were also present at the dinner.

The tussle started on the issue of the public sector bank frauds when the second half of budget session began on 5 March.

Kumar cited BJP's alliance with local parties in northeast states to claim that the NDA is becoming "NDA plus".

The Bahujan Samaj Party, which has skipped Opposition meetings in the past, was represented by senior leader Satish Chandra Misra.

"After Rahul Gandhi's return from Italy, the Congress has changed its strategy".

Both the government and the Congress party blamed each other for the non-functioning of the Parliament.
