Overall, pollsters found roughly 72 percent of respondents said they are generally anxious about the prospect of foreign government interference in US elections, with 90 percent of Democrats agreeing, 68 percent of independents, and 53 percent of Republicans.

A new CBS poll finds that just 38 percent of voters now approve of Trump's overall job performance in the Oval Office, up just a point over almost a two-month period. Republicans viewed the provision as adhering to the long-standing Hyde Amendment - a 40-year-old appropriations restriction that prevents federal funding for abortions - but Democrats viewed it as an impermissible expansion of abortion restrictions. "Fifty-four percent of Republicans feel the same way, according to the poll". Young people, however, lag: Only 37 percent of registered voters ages 18-34 say they're excited about the 2018 vote. And how about another Supreme Court pick for Trump? Lamb still eked out a victory over Saccone. Other recent special elections that in theory shouldn't have been close have been - Roy Moore vs. Doug Jones in Alabama, and Jon Ossoff vs. Karen Handel in Georgia, for example. As Vox's Ella Nilsen and Tara Golshan note, Republicans initially focused on the tax cut messaging in Pennsylvania but by election day had pivoted to decrying so-called sanctuary cities after determining the tax message wasn't breaking through.
