Manchester City were crowned Premier League champions on Sunday after Manchester United crashed to a shock 1-0 defeat against West Brom as coach Pep Guardiola added a first English title to his three apiece at Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

The Red Devils were praised for overcoming a bad first half and two-goal deficit to spoil City's title party at the Etihad Stadium last weekend, although some of their players patently took their eye off the ball in the wake of that 3-2 win. The rest of the squad was spread out across Europe, and even beyond, on their day off after City's 3-1 win at Tottenham on Saturday night had left the league title agonisingly close.

A week after City surrendered a 2-0 lead to lose 2-3 to United and squander the chance to wrap up the title in flawless style against their arch-rivals, it was relegation-bound West Brom who served it up on a plate.

Jay Rodriguez netted a vital victor for the Baggies at Old Trafford, a result which confirmed City as Premier League champions.

With the exception of the chance for Lukaku - and a penalty appeal when Ander Herrera was caught by Craig Dawson - it was a soporific first half for the home fans.

They were on course to go the whole league season unbeaten before losing 4-3 to Liverpool at Anfield in January.

Even so, he is still managing to outperform Pogba in a number of key metrics over the Premier League season.

'We were a complicated team and let them feel comfortable.

City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, a candidate for Player of the Year, said: "Unbelievable season for us".

"I saw lots of people [over] the moon because we won against City".

Against West Brom, however, it was down to the home side to set the pace in front of their own fans, to establish a dominant pattern in the game.

Mourinho also admitted his doubts over Pogba after the match: 'Paul had a yellow card and had a situation where he may have had another booking.

"Second position was not done before the game", Mata told United's website. "Very happy to call us champions this year!"

"To win against Manchester City was not a title for me, for me it was a good three points to try and finish second, top four at least".

It was Arsenal's fifth consecutive away defeat in the Premier League.

Jay Rodriguez secured rock-bottom West Brom a win at Manchester United that was as remarkable as it had looked unlikely. In sealing the league at this stage, City matched the record for the earliest title win, held by United since 2001.
