Bulgaria annual CPI records 2.2% inflation in March

It may be recalled that WPI inflation was at 5.11 per cent in March past year.

Wholesale price inflation (WPI) in India stood at 2.47% in March, 2018.

Index for "Crude Petroleum & Natural Gas" group declined by 0.5 percent to 80.2 (provisional) from 80.6 (provisional) for the previous month due to lower price of crude petroleum (1%).

The inflation data for January was revised upwards to 3.02 per cent from the provisional estimate of 2.84 per cent. It revised downwards forecast for retail inflation to 4.7-5.1 per cent for April-September and 4.4 per cent for October-March.

Inflation for fuel and power segment came at 4.70% in March as compared to 3.81% for the previous month. "We expect the average WPI inflation to rise to around 3.9 per cent in 2018-19 from 2.9 per cent in 2017-18", Nayar said.

The harmonised CPI figure, calculated by NSI for comparison with European Union data, recorded a decrease of 0.2 per cent on a monthly basis, while the annual harmonised CPI in March showed a 1.9 per cent increase.

On the other hand, the index for "Manufacture of Textiles" sub-group rose by 0.4 per cent to 114.1 from 113.7 for the previous month due to higher price of viscose yarn, knitted and crocheted fabrics, synthetic yarn and weaving and finishing of textiles (1 per cent each).

Gas prices at multi-year high but may be near peak
The national average price for gasoline is the highest in more than two years, AAA said. Gas prices are set to spike in Central Florida by as much as 25 cents.


Product-wise, the price of high-speed diesel rose by 6.12 per cent during March while that of petrol climbed by 2.55 per cent and for LPG by (-) 9.08 per cent.

Moreover, the retail inflation eased to 4.28 per cent, a five-month low in March, but remained above RBI's medium-term target, supporting views that monetary policy is likely to remain unchanged at the next review in early June.

The CSO data revealed that the consumer food price index (CFPI) stood at 2.81 percent in March compared to 3.26 percent in February 2018.

"However, there are some noticeable changes at the disaggregate level".

The ease in inflation was attributed to falling prices of food items, particularly vegetables and pulses.
