Apart from Porsche and Mercedes-Benz, the FIA Formula E also confirmed the other manufacturers for Season 6 with the list including Audi Sport, BMW AG, DS Automobiles, Jaguar Land Rover, Mahindra Racing, NextEV NIO, Nissan, Penske Autosport and Venturi Automobiles.

Porsche works driver Neel Jani has set a new lap record at Spa-Francorchamps in the Le Mans-winning Porsche 919 Hybrid LMP1 racer.

Having given Hamilton a bath at Spa, the Porsche team plans to tackle the Nurburgring and Laguna Seca on its 919 Tribute Tour. Other changes include optimized turning vanes and floors with fixed height side skirts to increase aerodynamics. "The 919 Evo is brutally impressive", Jani said of the auto.

"It was kind of an engineer's dream come true for us", admits Stephen Mitas, Chief Race Engineer LMP1, "Having developed, improved and raced the auto for four years, the guys had a very close relationship to it". In all, the aerodynamic tweaks alone yielded 53 percent higher downforce and improved the aerodynamic efficiency by 66 percent. Porsche says this will help the automaker to find bespoke solutions for key technologies including the electric motor, inverter, brake-by-wire system; as well as the transmission, differential, monocoque, suspension components attached to the rear-axle as well as the cooling system for the ECU. "It is definitely the fastest auto I ever drove", says Jani.

Two 919 Hybrid cars will be fielded, with auto number 1 being driven by Neel Jani (33, Switzerland), André Lotterer (35, Germany) and Nick Tandy (32, Great Britain), the former being the WEC World Champion and 2016 Le Mans victor. We all knew, no matter how successful the 919 Hybrid was, it could never show its full abilities. Keeping the tire dimensions (31/71-18), the target was to increase the grip level significantly. It even beat the all-time track record, set by Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton, by 0.783 seconds. The speed on which everything happens on a single lap with the 919 Evo is that fast that the demand on reaction speed is very different to what I was used to in the WEC. The power steering was modified to take the higher loads the extra downforce and poke put on the race vehicle, stronger suspension wishbones were added, and everything that wasn't needed for a single full-noise lap - air conditioning, the windscreen wiper, sensors, race control electronics, lights and the pneumatic jacks - was removed to save 39 kilograms for an overall 849kg race weight. We are not only faster than the F1 pole from 2017. At the 2017 championship round in Spa, in the Porsche 919 Hybrid's final season, it could use 1.784 kilogram/2.464 liters of gasoline per lap. We have had three very intense days at Spa. "One can only congratulate Neel and the entire crew for achieving it".

It turns out as if, when the rules which govern the World Endurance Championship are ignored, there is a lot that could be done to go faster. "A big thank you to Porsche for this experience". It will next do a demo lap on the legendary Nordschleife before the start of the 24-Hours Nürburgring race on May 12.

United Kingdom based fans will get their chance to see the auto in action at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on 12-15 July and the Festival of Porsche in Brands Hatch on 2 September.
