Is Harrisburg keeping its school superintendent? New vote tonight indicates 'yes'

It took several weeks for Huntsville to hammer out a deal with Akin a year ago.

The final vote on the budget will be in June. The district says that savings from two school closings would alleviate its financial problems and eliminate the need to use reserve funds to balance the budget. "We generate $10 million more, they send us $10 million less".

"That trend's going to continue through the middle schools eventually and eventually through the high school", he said.

Rogers said that all existing security cameras are being upgraded and, by September, the district will have cameras on every door, playground and pickup and dropoff area.

Other sponsorships are also being sought, so long as the sponsors are not direct competitors of primary sponsor Grand View Health, he said.

Public high schools can not get the amounts of money from sponsorships that universities do, though, he said, because much of the university sponsorships are through alumni networks.

While the trio said that the traditional method of learning, i.e. reading and writing, is still very important, they also maintain that this kind of hands-on approach will better prepare their students for a future where STEM (science, technology, engineering and match) jobs, like computer programming and software development, will be in high demand.
