The Egyptian football legend has become a symbol of national pride for Egyptians, taking part in numerous advertising campaigns and, most recently, becoming the new face of the Ramadan lantern.

After the adrenaline rush of completing a 5-1 aggregate win over Premier League leaders Manchester City in the Champions League on Tuesday there was a danger that the visit of Eddie Howe┬┤s Bournemouth might be an anti-climax.

Jurgen Klopp heaped praise on record-breaking star Mohamed Salah after the Liverpool forward celebrated his 40th goal of the season against Bournemouth.

It was Salah who again hogged the headlines as he joined Roger Hunt and Ian Rush as the only players to score 40 times in a single season for Liverpool. This was the first time for Salah to be nominated for BBC African Footballer of the Year. "I'm sure he'll keep doing that for the rest of the season".

Salah could have scored in just the third minute, prodding a great opportunity wide from Trent Alexander-Arnold's whipped cross, but the first Reds goal arrived shortly after.

Man City confirmed as champions after Baggies shock United
Jay Rodriguez headed home to secure rock-bottom West Brom a win at Old Trafford that was as remarkable as it had looked unlikely. Mourinho said the attitude of his players had changed following their victory over Manchester City last weekend.

Thirty of those have come in the Premier League, leaving him out in front in the race to win the Golden Boot, but the accolades will count for little unless Salah gets his hands on the big prize next month - the Champions League trophy. It's also very close, it's just seven goals.

He added: "Of course I can not lie - it is in my mind".

"When we lost the ball we were like lions, coming back with counter pressing, that obviously makes life uncomfortable for the other side", said Klopp, whose side have now scored 78 league goals this season.

"It is a great feeling, of course it is a great feeling, but in the end I am just happy to score and help the team", he told United Kingdom newspapers. That is the most important thing for us, that we play as a team, we play as 11 players.

"The finish from Mo was a bit of an unusual one for him and one that maybe took everyone by surprise", midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain added.
