Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to break his silence over the rape and killing of an eight-year-old girl in Kathua district of the state.

Huge crowd had gathered at the India Gate here on Thursday midnight to protest against the incidents of rape in Unnao in Uttar Pradesh and Kathua in Jammu and Kashmir.

BJP leader Vaibhav Agarwal tagged the protest by a Congress as a fashion war and said that the party was politicising the issue.

"We are here against crimes being committed against women, against rapes, violence and murder and the government must act on this".

Warriors cruise past Spurs in opener
A lot of people have tended to forget what we're capable of. The Warriors don't want to rush him, of course. And to get a win here, we got to overachieve.

Earlier today, Congress president Rahul Gandhi had challenged PM Modi to speak up on the two rape cases, calling his silence "unacceptable". "India is waiting", he said. Join me in a silent, peaceful, candlelight vigil at India Gate at midnight tonight to protest this violence and demand justice. Along with Congress president, many senior leaders including Ex-RajyaSabha MP Gulam Nabi Azad, Delhi Congress chief Ajay Makan, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Wadra and her husband Robert Wadra with hundreds of party cadres were present at the candlelight march. His statement came as a reference to the alleged rape of a 17-year-old girl in UP's Unnao and of an 8-year-old girl in J&K's Kathua.

"The BJP and RSS have an "anti-Dalit" mindset as their government has abolished the sub-plan for SC/STs, have talked of ending reservation and amending the Constitution which was framed by Dr. Ambedkar", Ms. Selja said.

Taking lonely lead for his party, Union minister VK Singh has joined his voice to the national outrage. Speaking to the Times Network, the family also questioned the BJP's "Beti Bachao" slogan and slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party leaders who had attempted to "shield" the accused in the case.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Friday urged to take suo motu cognisance of the conduct of lawyers who created ruckus and tried to obstruct the filing of a charge-sheet in the Kathua rape and murder case of an eight-year-old minor.
