Thirty years after leaving the Marine Corps, Ermey received an honorary post-service promotion to gunnery sergeant for his continued support to Americans in the military.

Deadline reports that Ermey's death was announced on social media by his long time manager, Bill Rogan.

"It is with deep sadness that I regret to inform you all that R. Lee Ermey ('The Gunny') passed away this morning from complications of pneumonia". He will be greatly missed by all of us.

"It is extremely hard to truly quantify all of the great things this man has selflessly done for, and on behalf of, our many men and women in uniform", Rogin wrote. Ermey previously played a drill sergeant in The Boys in Company C, and had a role in Apocalypse Now.

R. Lee Ermey has passed away aged 74. Like with many people, he first caught my attention as the drill sergeant in Full Metal Jacket - I'd be quoting lines of his for many, many years.

City beats Spurs to edge closer to title
Manchester City moved to the brink of the English Premier League title after beating Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 at Wembley on Saturday. After sweeping through most of the season in regal fashion, City had crashed down to earth with a bump over the last 10 days.

After some minor film parts, the actor was meant to advise on another movie as well: Full Metal Jacket. He was initially presupposed to be a technical adviser, however Kubrick supplied him the function of Gunnery Sergeant Hartman after seeing a demo tape of Emery railing at extras. It's actually the Riflemen's Creed.

In his function as a drill teacher breaking in new Marines at boot camp on Parris Island, S.C., Ermey roared his method into movie historical past by berating his unlucky prices. There are many Gunny's, but this one was ours. "There are many Gunny's, but this one was OURS", Rogin said. An impressed Kubrick gave him the role.

He earned a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the war drama. In the film, Ermey's Hartman makes life a living hell for a group of Marine Corps recruits.

Ermey also lent his voice to video games - seeing him stars Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel (as General Barnaky), as well as Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex (as WaWa),. "Lee came up with, I don't know, 150 pages of insults". He also hosted military documentary shows like the History Channel's Lock N' Load with R. Lee Ermey, and GunnyTime on the Outdoor Channel.

Rogin continued to say that R. Lee Ermey will be missed and also added that nobody was prepared for his death.
