On Monday morning, it didn't seem like the night's game between the Kansas City Royals and Toronto Blue Jays was in danger of being postponed. "Played as expected", the since deleted tweet read, punctuated by a winking emoticon.

Crews attempted to fix the roof in time for first pitch but were unable to and the Blue Jays scrapped the game due to safety reasons.

The game had been rescheduled as part of a doubleheader starting Tuesday afternoon.

The Jays' account sent out a few tweets over the course of the weekend, taking mild jabs at the situation in Cleveland in the belief that postponements couldn't happen in Toronto, where the weekend weather - a mess of snow and freezing rain - was much worse.

The game was officially called off about one hour and 30 minutes before its scheduled start.
