Cashier-less store coming to IL

And on Sunday, the San Francisco Chronicle reported that Amazon planned to open a store near the city's Union Square, with a formal announcement expected within weeks.

Amazon is opening additional Amazon Go locations in Chicago and San Francisco as the company expands its cashier-less grocery store concept across the nation. That news comes from the fact that the internet retail giant has listed Amazon Go store manager positions for Chicago and San Fransisco on its jobs site.

The cashierless Amazon Go store in Seattle will no longer be the only location. Once inside, they can take soda, salads or anything else off its shelves and just walk out.

Earlier this year, Recode reported that Amazon had plans of opening as many as six new Amazon Go outlets in 2018.

Real-estate tracker Curbed in February spotted a building permit for construction of a 625-square-foot "Amazon store" in Chicago's Loop district. Overhead cameras keep track of what a customer buys and charges them after they leave, the Tribune said. The customers are automatically charged for the items they've picked up once they leave the store and a receipt is sent to the app. Each store will also have staff members who will be there to make sure the shelves are restocked and assist new customers who are hesitant about how it all works. It bought grocer Whole Foods a year ago for $13.7billion, which gave it 470 stores, and has opened more than a dozen bookstores.
