Official: We have named a 12-man squad for our first Test against Pakistan.

England's new national selector Ed Smith believes it is "the ideal moment" to reintroduce Jos Buttler to Test cricket.

Afterwards, he spared a thought for his county team-mate - who made an encouraging debut himself in the last Test of England's winless winter, against New Zealand in Christchurch.

Buttler, widely regarded as one of the most talented English batsmen of his generation, last played Test cricket when he batted down the order.

He certainly proved to be Shivam Mavi's nemesis in the IPL on Tuesday by smashing the Kolkata Knight Riders seamer for SIX boundaries in an over while batting for Rajasthan Royals at Eden Gardens.

The England squad also features Somerset off-spinner Dom Bess, who was given a first call-up.

Buttler has yet to hit any great heights in Test cricket but former England batsman Smith said: "We feel it's the right thing, at the right time with the right player".

Latin America in quandary over USA embassy move
Guatemalan President Jimmy Morales also said in December that the country would move its embassy back to Jerusalem . Morales said Israel and Guatemala have a "deep friendship", hoping that other countries will follow the same move.

The loss against Kolkata Knight Riders couldn't have come at a more bad time for Rajasthan Royals, who are set to lose out two of their biggest global stars in the form of Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes because of worldwide commitments.

The 27-year-old is now playing some of his best cricket in the Indian Premier League.

New selector England Ed Smith said about Buttler's selection: "Jos Buttler is an outstanding talent, who is already a central part of England's white ball teams". The selection panel feels that this is the ideal moment to reintroduce Jos to Test cricket, where he has already enjoyed some success, including a stint playing as a specialist batsman at number seven.

As for Bess, who is just 20, he has featured in 16 first-class matches and taken 63 wickets at an average of 22.49.

"Dom Bess has made an excellent start to his first-class career", said Smith. "Dom's strong form, character and all-round abilities presented a compelling case for selection".

Joe Root (captain), James Anderson, Jonny Bairstow, Dom Bess, Stuart Broad, Jos Buttler, Alastair Cook, Dawid Malan, Ben Stokes, Mark Stoneman, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood.
