Overwatch Crosses More Than 40 Million Players

Included is a range of new content such as over 50 cosmetic items, a new death match map, and all previous seasonal cosmetic items.

A new developer update for Overwatch confirmed that the game has now amassed 40 million players while also revealing some details about the new map. The Overwatch: Archives will also return so players can get clued up on some Overwatch lore.

Beginning on May 22nd, a large event will take place to celebrate Overwatch's two year anniversary. Like with last year's events, we will be getting over 50 new cosmetics items including 8 new Legendary skins and dance emotes. Players logging during the event will receive a bonus Legendary loot box, guaranteeing one Legendary item. These game modes, like Mei's Snowball Offensive or Junkenstein's Revenge, or even the recently concluded Retribution, will be cycled through one by one on a daily basis, so just keep checking back each day to see if your favourite mode is there. Additionally, the event will bring back all seasonal cosmetic items, as well as some past seasonal brawls.

Jeff Kaplan, Overwatch Director, highlighted that the new deathmatch map, Petra will focus on a having a mega health pack in the middle of the map and an area that will become increasingly more risky as the game goes on.

Kaplan also hints that a handsome gentleman will have a legendary skin, as demanded many times by the Overwatch community.

Overwatch's Jeff Kaplan was featured in the video and started by discussing the upcoming anniversary event.

A new map, Petra, is being introduced along with the first Competitive Deathmatch Season.
