Rumours: West Ham eye Newcastle's Rafa Benitez and Shakhtar's Fonseca

As things stand, Newcastle have not had any contact with West Ham asking for permission to speak to Benitez, who has a year left on his contract.

Portuguese coach Paulo Fonseca has rejected the chance to join West Ham United in favour of signing a new two-year contract with Ukrainian giants Shakhtar Donetsk.

Shakhtar impressively made it out of a group that included Manchester City and Napoli - where they also beat City 2-1 at home in the final group game - to progress into the last 16 where they were narrowly beaten 3-1 on aggregate by eventual semi-finalists Roma. 'Shakhtar will still demonstrate some handsome, attacking football.
