WhatsApp Groups will now have group descriptions, which are short bios that describe what the group is about in relation to its guidelines or topics discussed. The new features are going to be of particular interest to larger groups, but it will appeal to smaller groups of chatters as well.

Messaging service WhatsApp rolled out new group-chat features on Tuesday, including more controls for administrators as well as regular group members. The group description can be changed by group admins and participants, with admins also having the option to restrict participants from doing so.

The company stated that chat groups are an important part of the WhatsApp experience, and it has chose to implement improvements to the functionality. "There are also people coming together in groups on WhatsApp like new parents looking for support, students organizing study sessions, and even city leaders coordinating relief efforts after natural disasters". Some of these functions include changing the group subject, icon and description. This should solve your daily conundrum with family WhatsApp Groups. On May 15, WhatsApp announced several updates to group chats that allow members to catch up on what they've missed quickly while giving administrators additional controls.

Group catch up: One of the most demanded features in Groups was a way to find out whether someone called you out at some point and you can straight dive into it. To find these messages, WhatsApp group users will only have to tap the @ button that now appears at the bottom-right corner of the chat. Another change makes adding someone who has already left a group a bit more complicated, to discourage re-adds. WhatsApp says the tool is created to help users quickly get up to speed inside a group after being away from the chat.

WhatsApp also says that admins can now remove admin permissions of other group participants, and group creators can no longer be removed from the group they started.

Finally, WhatsApp users will be able to search for participants in a group, by visiting the Group info section within a group.
