Fortnite Drops Onto Nintendo Switch Today

Anyone who owns an Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, or a mobile phone, can play Fortnite free of charge. You can just plug your headphones into the jack like God intended, according to developers from Epic Games on today's Nintendo Treehouse Live stream from the E3 show floor.

Fortnite on Switch now joins the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and iOS version (Android in the works) of the game in a 100-person battle royale clash to the finish. The game hit mobile platforms some time ago, and since the Switch is built using a number of mobile-oriented components, porting Fortnite to the Switch seemed like an obvious win.

That's how Epic Games announced the first year competitions on their blog post last month.

Epic didn't provide any information regarding what gaming platforms the World Cup would be played on or any of the rules for the event. It will split the money between many events at different levels of competition worldwide. The Fortnite World Cup qualifiers will begin in the Fall that will culminate in a battle of the best in late 2019. The World Cup will focus on Solo and Duo plays but there might be something for Squads too. Epic will not be selling teams or franchises, and won't allow third-party leagues to do so either.

Fortnite's rise in popularity has been matched by questions surrounding the game's viability as an esport and speculation regarding Epic's esports strategy. With several famous celebrities co-signing the addicting game, Fortnite picked up a long list of free support.
