Kim leaves China as S. Korea urges 'concrete' plan on nukes

China expressed its strongest support so far Tuesday for the denuclearization deal between President Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, although concerns are mounting that Mr. Trump's aggressive tariffs on Chinese goods could lead Beijing to be less cooperative in the US -led push to get Pyongyang to give up its nuclear weapons arsenal.

When the United States recovered 208 cases of remains from the North Koreans in the 1990s, in what became known as the "K208 cases", scientists found that they were extensively commingled, with the remains of at least 400 service members inside.

Kim reportedly agreed to work toward complete denuclearization of the peninsula in exchange for the USA suspending all military exercises in South Korea.

That saw both leaders sign a document to say that North Korea would dump its nukes, in return for economic help from the US.

Xi reportedly praised the outcome of the Singapore summit, calling it an "important step toward the political solution of the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue", according to the party-controlled press.

Japan is eyeing a meeting between Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, government sources said a week ago, and Japanese media have reported that one possibility was for Abe to visit Pyongyang, perhaps as early as August.

Trump said he has no plans to decrease the number of USA troops in the South as part of security assurances for the North, but has left open the possibility to do so in the future.
