In Vancouver, fans of Team France will be gathering at The American Bar and Coffee Shop on Main Street, to watch the action unfold.

France coach Didier Deschamps was thrown into the air by his players after becoming just the third person to win the World Cup as a player and as a coach.

The French are favourites to win the World Cup when they take on the Croatians at Luzhniki stadium but Deschamps is well aware they were also fancied to beat Portugal in the Euro 2016 final, which they lost.

For Deschamps, the 1998 World Cup winning captain who was given the rather unflattering nickname of "the water-carrier" by Eric Cantona, it will be champagne in Moscow tonight. Vatreni will be looking to get some revenge and become immortal in the process.

Griezmann stepped up and duly dispatched the penalty, nonchalantly sending Danijel Subasic the wrong way to ensure the World Cup final saw the most prolific first half since 1974. Despite having a young side packed with attacking talent, it has been the rearguard that has taken the headlines. The phenom scores twice and draws a penalty that Griezmann converts for a third, with a wonderful strike by Benjamin Pavard tucked in between.

As the game ended they couldn't hide sadness but many said they were happy at what Croatia has achieved.

Meanwhile, Croatia will be hoping they can continue pulling off upsets at the global showpiece and secure what would be a historic maiden World Cup title for their country. Kylian Mbappé has the potential to light up the final, just as Zinedine Zidane did in 1998.

FRANCE 4, ARGENTINA 3: Mbappe dominates in a round-of-16 match that has the feel of a final as the teams trade the lead three times.

France has been one of the standout teams during the 2018 World Cup with teenager speedster Kylian Mbappé tearing up opposing defensive lines with his speed and skill. "There is something special in this team", Lloris warned.

They played extra-time in all of them and needed penalties against the Danes and hosts Russian Federation. The current Golden Generation of stars lead by Luca Modric have sparkled during the World Cup, putting performances to make the European nation proud. Tiredness will certainly not be a factor for Zlatco Dalic's charges who are on the cusp of making history. "Alerte rouge!" had been one headline in French sports daily L'Équipe in the build-up - and Les Bleus certainly had Croatia on "red alert" now.

Croatia showed no early nerves and confidently dominated the action in the French half, without however threatening as Raphael Varane headed a cross out of danger ahead of Mandzukic. "Very happy. We look forward to lifting the cup and taking it to France".
