Trump faults Obama for US response to Russian hacking

A recent indictment filed against 12 Russian intelligence officials accused of stealing emails from the Democratic National Committee in order to subvert Hillary Clinton's campaign alleges hackers were paid for their actions using bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

Earlier, while speaking with 7News, Stone said he has no problem admitting that he did speak to somebody who called himself "Guccifer 2.0", but doesn't think it's a real Russian hacker.

They also plotted to hack into the computers of state boards of elections, secretaries of state, and voter software, according to the indictment.

Earlier that month, the Federal Bureau of Investigation announced it would not recommend charges against Clinton for her use of a personal email server during her time as secretary of state.

"These indictments are further proof of what everyone but the president seems to understand: President Putin is an adversary who interfered in our elections to help President Trump win", Schumer said in a statement.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein said no Americans knew they were communicating with Russians in this indictment and he had no evidence that the outcome of the election was affected.

"President Trump should cancel his meeting with Vladimir Putin until Russian Federation takes demonstrable and transparent steps to prove that they won't interfere in future elections", wrote Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer in a statement.

Unit 74455, also known as the Main Centre for Special Technology, engineered the release of the stolen documents through a website it created called DCLeaks and the online persona Guccifer 2.0, according to the indictment.

We now know, however, that he had been told that Russian Federation was trying to help his father's campaign and may have dirt on Hillary Clinton in a private email exchange just the month before.

Last week, before Special Counsel Robert Mueller's indictment was released, the president dismissed the Russian Federation probe as a "rigged witch hunt".

Next week he will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin at a summit in Helsinki, Finland.

"The internet allows foreign adversaries to attack Americans in new and unexpected ways", Rosenstein said.

Mueller's team says the Russians used "spearphishing" - a technique used to steal passwords or otherwise gain access to computers - throughout the summer of 2016 to hack individuals associated with the Clinton campaign.

The US Justice Department announced on Friday an indictment charging twelve Russian citizens for attempting to use Bitcoin (BTC) to engage in money laundering activities.

A senior Trump campaign adviser later told CNBC that Trump "wasn't calling on anyone to intervene, but instead was pushing anyone who has them to hand them over to authorities".

A group of leading Democratic senators, including Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer of NY, urged Mr. Trump Saturday either to cancel the summit or not to meet alone with Mr. Putin, noting that the Russian president is a veteran spy.

The indictment does say Guccifer 2.0 reached out to someone in contact with the Trump campaign about the "docs I posted" - Stone said on CNN that "I think I probably am the person referred to".

Mueller previously indicted 13 Russians and three companies for allegedly interfering in the presidential vote.

"When I see this indictment, I thought what I thought when I saw the troll farm indictment, which is why do we need a special counsel for this?"
