A highly requested feature, dark mode, is now available in Android Messages. Ceteris paribus, Android Messages with Dark Mode is a treat for your eyes especially if you do a lot of texting in the night time.

We saw Google's vision for an updated look to its Material Design vision back in July.

Apart from the dark mode, the updated Android Messages app brings Material Theme-based interface that adds a completely white background and Google Sans font.

Unfortunately, updated versions of the "Android" Message disappeared the ability to customize the color of the "bubbles" that reflect the message of the interlocutor.

Android Messages now has a dark mode and new Material Design

This refreshing change comes as a surprise, as tons of apps have been updated with no variations at all except from changing the accent color to white. Now you can quickly toggle the feature on and off as you see fit. Colors remain on avatars and the new message icon.

The first thing you'll notice that's different (besides the dark theming, of course) is that the text messages which the user is sending are all blue, regardless of the theme choice.

Another big change from the app aside from the new font and dark mode is the replacement of the '+' button located on the bottom right corner with a big "Start Chat" sign. You'll also find other visual tweaks and bug fixes within the app. However, Google has made it clear that it does not store any messages to provide suggestions to the users.

The updated Android Messages app is rolling out for all compatible devices through Google Play.
