Habs' Domi suspended for rest of preseason

With the Florida star showing no interest to drop the gloves, Domi punched him in the face twice with two lefts, but still Ekblad didn't respond. Although the Florida Panthers defenceman had zero intentions of dropping the gloves, the Habs forward continued to hack away at Ekblad until he finally dropped him with a sucker punch.

In his first preseason game in a Canadiens uniform, playing as the first line centre, Domi did something remarkably stupid Wednesday night that might have put that whole experiment in jeopardy.

Following the game, Panthers head coach Bob Boughner told reporters that Ekblad was removed from the game by the league to determine if he'd suffered a concussion.

"We definitely won't forget about it", Panthers goalie Roberto Luongo said.

Domi had a hearing with NHL Player Safety for his attack on Ekblad Thursday afternoon, and it's hard to mount up a case against a suspension.

Added Mike Hoffman: "I guess they were trying to showcase something over there".

The 23-year-old was acquired by the Canadiens in June from the Arizona Coyotes for forward Alex Galchenyuk.
