If no agreement is made by Sunday night, unionized workers with Canada Post could begin rotating strikes shortly after midnight. All times listed are in local time.

"It's unrealistic to expect a carrier to deliver at least 150 packages a day, plus mail, plus flyers and try and do it in an eight-hour day - it's completely impossible", Whitfield said.

While the growing popularity of online shopping has been accompanied by an increased workload for postal workers, on Saturday, Canada Post refused a new proposal that would see postal routes modified according to the volume of mail, according to Gelinas.

CUPW National President, Mike Palecek says Canada Post had the opportunity over the weekend to stop any postal disruption, but instead, as they have for nearly a year, refused to talk about the issues that matter to their members.

"We have also addressed numerous concerns raised by the union and offered to work together constructively to find solutions", Canada Post's statement read. The statement adds that additional issues include ending "forced overtime", and "overburdening", service expansion and equality for RSMCs. Negotiations have been going on with Canada Post for nearly a year for the Urban Postal Operations and Rural and Suburban Mail Carriers (RSMC) bargaining units.

The strike is the result of ongoing negotiations regarding workers rights at Canada Post.
