Elon Musk’s 150mph 'Loop' tunnel system to open in December

Since then, Musk has purchased a boring machine to tunnel under the Los Angeles neighborhood with the hope of making modifications to the machinery that will allow tunnels to be dug more quickly.

In 2016, Elon Musk founded The Boring Company, an infrastructure and tunnel construction enterprise, which by 2017 filed permitting application with Los Angeles government regulators to build a tunnel from Hawthorne to Westwood.

Musk previously said his tunnelling company "started out as a joke" and acknowledged the project might fail.

A video simulation released by the company previous year shows a driver steering onto a car-sized platform on the street, parallel to the curb.

Monkeys 'stone man to death' in India

On Sunday, the CEO tweeted that the test tunnel's opening night event will happen on December 10 with free rides for the public the following day. leaving from near SpaceX headquarters in Hawthorne, California.

When asked if the December 10 date represented real time or "Elon time", the entrepreneur wrote, "I think real".

Privately held Boring Co has been promoting its plans for tunnels that would allow high-speed travel between cities.

In August, Musk announced a proposal to build a 3.6-mile tunnel that would carry fans between Dodger Stadium and a nearby Metro subway station.
