For 1st time, Saudis say Jamal Khashoggi killed in consulate

New York, October 19, 2018-Saudi state media today reported that the country's attorney general has confirmed prominent journalist and Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi died in the country's Turkey consulate, The Associated Press reported.

Khashoggi moved to the USA a year ago fearing he'd be arrested in Saudi Arabia.

The remarks came after Saudi Attorney General Sheikh Saud al-Mojeb said that Khashoggi had died after "discussions" at the consulate turned into "a brawl and a fist fight".

Khashoggi, who lived in suburban Washington, was a former insider who turned into a critic of the kingdom's direction under Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

These Turkish sources said an audio recording existed, though none has been made public or provided to USA authorities.

I guess the next obvious step here is to find Khashoggi's body.

The American leader said he does not believe Saudi Arabia's leadership lied to him, adding that the U.S. needs Saudi Arabia to counteract Iran.

At least one of the suspects traveled to Istanbul for the objective of meeting with Khashoggi, according to a statement from the Saudi Press Agency.

Democratic US Senator Richard Blumenthal told CNN the Saudi explanation "absolutely defies credibility" and he called for an worldwide investigation of Khashoggi's death.
