Marvel Comics co-creator Stan Lee has passed away at the age of 95, TMZ reports. In addition to being the former editor-in-chief of Marvel Comics, he went on to become the imprint's publisher and chairmen.

The Marvel Comics publisher helped to create numerous universe's best-loved characters, including Spider-Man, the Incredible Hulk, the X-Men, Black Panther, Iron Man, the Mighty Thor, the Fantastic Four, Daredevil and Ant-Man.

In between refilling artists' inkwells, erasing pencil lines from comic pages and fetching an untold number of lunches, Stanley expressed his desire to write and create tales of his own; in the May 1941 issue of CAPTAIN AMERICA COMICS #3, he got his wish.

Disney's Marvel Studios, which created a cinematic universe based on Lee's creations, has had 20 straight No. 1 openings at the box office.

"Everybody loved him", said Darryl Blaker, the store's director of marketing.

During his many years at the comic-book publishing house, Lee created characters including Spider-Man, the X-Men and the Fantastic Four.

"He changed the way we look at heroes, and modern comics will always bear his indelible mark. His infectious enthusiasm reminded us why we all fell in love with these stories in the first place". "Who has reached further and impacted deeper, our story telling and dreams than Stan Lee?". For now, the last Lee cameo that hit any silver screen comes courtesy of Insomniac Games' well-received Spider-Man game from earlier this year.

On Instagram, Josh Brolin, who plays Thanos in the Avengers films, said Lee ranked alongside authors Dr Seuss and Ray Bradbury.
