Fire alarm bells rang out in the CNN newsroom triggering the evacuation.

Host Don Lemon tweeted that staffers were evacuated from the premises during his live program.

"We grabbed what we could and go out of the building and now we're standing out front there", Lemon said.

"Employees have been evacuated and the NYPD is investigating", they added.

The NYPD said on Twitter: "Due to a police investigation at Columbus Circle, West 58th Street between 8th and 9th Avenue is closed to traffic and pedestrian traffic".

The measures would also limit early voting to no more than two weeks before an election, a move Democrats say is illegal. Evers says the state "should be embarrassed" by the Republicans' actions and that they have ignored the will of voters.

The bomb threat phone into CNN reportedly came from a caller with a Southern accent, MSNBC reports.

This was the third time that CNN had faced an evacuation over bomb threats. But police later said there was no evidence of any explosives inside the building, the station reported. "All of the employees, all the people who were in the building as we were doing our live broadcast are out of the Time Warner Center now".

Security officers evacuated the building as a precaution and called police. It is unclear whether the threat was directed at CNN or another location close by.

In October, the building was partially evacuated after a suspicious package containing a crude pipe bomb was delivered to the company.

The suspect, Cesar Sayoc, of Florida, was arrested and indicted on more than 30 federal counts, including use of a weapon of mass destruction, and he faces up to life in prison if convicted.
