Manchester City may miss out on Ajax's Frenkie de Jong with reports that he has chosen to join Paris Saint-Germain next summer.

At his press conference ahead of Ajax's clash with PEC Zwolle, Erik ten Hag was asked about De Jong and joked, "Yes, I spoke to him".

Ajax reportedly placed a £75m value on the in-demand midfielder in a bid to warn off suitors.

The 21-year-old is now one of the most highly rated young players in world football and he, along with teammate Matthijs De Ligt, has been linked heavily with possible moves to Barcelona and Manchester City.

"The only thing I can and will say is that there is still no agreement", said De Jong, a Barcelona target.

The 21-year-old midfielder has become one of Europe's most sought after products after starring for the Eredivisie side over the past year.

As well as spending some of his young career in defence, De Jong is a deep-lying midfield playmaker who also likes to dribble. Then we will see.

"I like to watch the great players, the ones who are technically good and understand the game", De Jong added. "In the winter I will not leave anyway".

The 21-year-old Dutch worldwide has impressed at club and global level this year, alerting the likes of Barcelona, Manchester United, Liverpool and Manchester City to his talents. But I am not sure, ' he told the paper.

De Jong has been capped five times by the Netherlands and played a key role in their Nations League campaign where they next face England in June 2019.

"I don't pay attention to it", De Jong said. I hear the stories but I just want to finish this season well'.
