Matt LaFleur calls coaching Green Bay Packers ‘a dream come true’

"Man, these fans are insane", LaFleur said with a smile at Wednesday's news conference.

Instead, the Packers were the only team to interview LaFleur for a head coaching job since the season ended. LaFleur not only will coordinate the offense in Green Bay but also will call plays.

No matter how you slice up LaFleur's background, all signs point to him having a handsome relationship with Rodgers.

Turns out, the connection was just fine.

LaFleur spent two seasons (2015-16) as quarterbacks coach for the Atlanta Falcons. Shanahan and McVay run offenses that have been praised for being innovative. He has a great history with QBs including Matt Ryan's MVP season and Jared Goff.

That was the end of LaFleur's DII football career. As for the QBs under him, LaFleur has brought out their best in the vertical and play-action passing games.

"It's been two long years here in Green Bay", Murphy said.

Dozens of Seals Turn Up on Icy Streets in Canada. Here's Why
Two seals have been struck by vehicles, Fitzgerald says. "There's not enough food in that little water supply", she said. But this week, that small Canadian town is on the map because of a different animal: the harp seal.

And then came LaFleur, who had just finished his first year as the Titans' playcalling offensive coordinator after previously working under Sean McVay as the Rams' non-playcalling offensive coordinator and under Kyle Shanahan as the Falcons' quarterbacks coach. Henry as the Titans' feature back helped the offense become more explosive and finish drives more successfully.

The Packers also present LaFleur another strong offensive line with which to work, so there will be no limitations with the playbook. Lafleur enters a dream situation with Aaron Rodgers as his quarterback. It's been a fast and frantic rise for LaFleur up the coaching ranks, and the franchise's leaders believe the Packers will be the ones capitalizing on his ascension.

Another reason the Packers hired LaFleur: He does not plan to mess with the defense. It marked the first time since 2006 that Green Bay failed to qualify for the postseason in back-to-back campaigns. The unit that was derailed by injuries in 2018 can be re-tooled with a few personnel upgrades this offseason, foremost via two first-round picks in the 2019 NFL Draft.

That's why he pursued another offensive coordinator job - this one in Tennesee that would offer him full play-calling duties.

A year in which the Titans ranked 27th in scoring offense (19.4 points per game). He was the team's quarterback from 1956 through 1971. The hiring was announced Tuesday by President and Chief Executive Officer Mark Murphy. So I think we're in alignment there because, like I said before, this game is about winning.

Do not let LaFleur's age - he's only four years older than Rodgers - fool you. "And the other thing that, and Brian can speak to this as well, he was there, [the players] talked a little bit about how they felt a complacency had set in among some players and coaches".
