Winter Storm WARNING Issued for Our Area

Plan on a couple inches of snow on the ground by the time you're waking up on Saturday.

Winter weather advisories have been issued for Davidson, Randolph, Stanly, Chatham, Rowan and Montgomery counties.

The advisory is in effect until 3 a.m. Sunday and covers northern IL and Northwest Indiana including Lee, DeKalb, Kane, DuPage and Cook counties. The advisories are in effect from 6 p.m. Saturday to 6 p.m. Sunday. As temperatures drop into the upper 20s to lower 30s overnight, rain will transition into snow as we head into Monday.

Road conditions continue to be an issue for nearly all of IL, with IDOT reporting Interstates in our area as covered with snow or ice. A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for portions of the region where there is potential for 5 or more inches of snow. The mountains could pick up a few snow showers. In the immediate Triad, ½ to 1 inch of snow and sleet with the most on the northwest side.

With one eye on the preparations for the World Cup in England, India will be looking to seal the slots in the playing XI. Their 50-run stand came off only 49 balls as Australia started to show a little more urgency.

Freezing rain is possible Sunday in York, Chester and Lancaster counties, weather officials said.

We should be back above freezing after 10 a.m. Sunday, sooner to the south of the Triad and a few hours later.

Accumulations will be light during the day.
