Instead of allowing for what is effectively two SIMs (one physical, one digital) but restricting customers to using only one at a time, the Pixel 4's dual-SIM support could eliminate that barrier entirely. This eSIM isn't widely used, though; Sprint in the U.S. uses it, but few other carriers do. A recent change in the AOSP (Android Open Source Project) Gerrit system shows that the next Pixel flagship will have a built-in dual-SIM functionality, reports XDA Developers.

This information comes from a comment left by one Google developer in Android's code documentation, so it seems reasonable that it is legitimate. "In general, some devices will be single SIM, even if they contain two SIM cards, as the Pixel 2018 case and that is a valid configuration".

Android Police first broke the story this morning, and their Richard Gao gave a great explanation of the different kinds of dual SIM available. In fact, even if you only wanted to use the eSIM to buy mobile data from a local country when on holiday to avoid eye-watering roaming charges - not being able to receive any text messages or calls to the number associated with your usual SIM card is a not inconsiderable drawback. You aren't required to purchase two identical phones to take advantage of the promotion, any combination of Pixel 3 or Pixel 3 XL phones will work regardless of their storage capacity. This is how the Pixel 2 series and Pixel 3 series work, as both have a physical SIM slot and an eSIM slot.

Can Solskjaer inspire Manchester United to another Champions League comeback?
The French champions have bowed out in the last 16 in each of the past two seasons to Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid. United succumbed to a disappointing defeat at the hands of French champions PSG on Tuesday night in the Champions League .

Beyond that, there's no other word regarding other features.

Whether this means the Pixel 4 will support two hardware SIMs (as most users would understand dual SIM to mean) remains to be seen, but it appears if it does, the software will be ready for it.

For those who want to use dual SIM functionality to juggle a business and personal number, that's a pretty serious setback.
