Super Bowl LIII MVP Julian Edelman said goodbye to his beard, as the New England Patriots star had it shaved off Friday on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. He left with only the trophy.

She said she would donate $10,000 to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston, a pet Edelman project, if he would let her shave it off right then and there.

When historians look back on the 2018 NFL season and examine the New England Patriots, they won't find the league's most-talented team, its hottest at the end of the season, or even its winningest overall.

Taking his coach's words far too literally, Edelman put his razor in the drawer before this past season began and made a decision to just let it all grow, to the point where his beard expanded past the contours of Edelman's rather compact head to become its own separate entity. Before going to work she asked Edelman if he had any last words for his beard - he did: "I love you beard, it's been a hell of a year". "This is what I sacrificed all my time for - my friends, my family, everything like that", Edelman explained.

"We still got meat on the bone", Edelman told King. Edelman was named the Most Valuable Player.

The newborn, believed to be between one and three days old, was rescued after a three-hour rescue mission. When they finally got to the baby they broke into the pipe and managed to reach in and grab her.

There are a number of intriguing possibilities for the Patriots opener, including the Chiefs, whom New England beat in the AFC Championship game, the Steelers, and the Giants.

"Eating is a nightmare", Edelman told Ellen of his unruly beard.

The New England Patriots have won yet another Super Bowl title, while the AFC East powerhouse has now won three of the last five and two of the last three National Football League championships.

Edelman said focusing on returning in Week 5 is what kept him from slumping into a dark place.
