Northern Lights may be visible this weekend

"When this happens, more southerly regions of Canada see the northern lights, typically on the horizon towards the north".

But it could be spotted over Northern Ireland, especially around the north coast.

Ever since I was a child I've always been amazed by the Aurora Borealis or "The Northern Lights".

The blast caused a large cloud of charged particles - a coronal mass ejection - that will hit the Earth's magnetic field as part of the storm.

Instead, your best bet is Saturday evening into early Sunday morning. That is farther south than normal.

Star gazers in cities as far south as NY and Chicago may get a rare glimpse of the northern lights this weekend due to an unusual geomagnetic storm. If you can head to a location north of I-94, your chances of seeing them are MUCH higher.

Should the Kp-Index show numbers favorable to see the Auroras in our area, you will want to find the darkest spot possible, to avoid light pollution.

'However, the clearest skies are further east in Aberdeenshire, where there are plenty of clear skies.

The Met Office's Space account tweeted: 'CME forecast to arrive late 23rd March following C5 flare from sunspot AR2736.

The level of geomagnetic storms are measured on a scale called the KP-index, which goes from 0 to 9.

The glowing in the sky, known as an aurora borealis, are mostly known as the Northern Lights and are quite often visible over Iceland.
