Former manager Jose Mourinho made no secret of his desire to bring the 29-year-old to United, but caretaker boss Solskjaer was coy about a potential summer move.

"We have played so much worse and won games and that's the unusual thing when you're a manager you can look behind the result and say that was a good performance but we didn't get what we deserved... it's so odd".

"But we are ready to go again after the internationals. We have so many highlights look forward to".

"The confidence in the players, it's sky high", he said.

"Man City are a great team and they are fighting for the title and, like us, in the Champions League and the FA Cup".

Wolves knocked Manchester United out of the FA Cup at the quarterfinal stage with a 2-1 win at Molineux to book a spot in the semifinals. As quoted by the Daily Mail, Solskjaer said: "I can't really comment on Gareth Bale or specific players".

While the Red Devils are out of the race in the Premier League, they are in the FA Cup where they have a quarter-final match against Wolverhampton Wolves.

There have also been wins at Chelsea, Tottenham and PSG in recent months, so the suggestion that Solskjaer has got lucky has naturally worn thin. "I think you earn your luck, but sometimes it's better to be lucky than good, eh?" It's the worst feeling you can have.

"We were very disappointed in the result, it hurts more than anything, but we can't look at the performance and say we were s***, because we weren't, to be honest and blunt".

Despite the late scare, it was a fully deserved victory for Wolves who edged the first half and utterly dominated the second to extend their unbeaten streak at home to seven games in all competitions.
