She actually said: "Far too long we have lived with the discomfort of being a second-class citizen, and frankly, I'm exhausted of it, and every single Muslim in this country should be exhausted of it". "It has to stop".

Pelosi demanded that Trump take down the post, which had been pinned at the top of his Twitter feed since Friday.

Trump, who will be visiting Omar's Minneapolis congressional district Monday where he'll be attending a nearby tax roundtable event, stood by his criticism of the congresswoman in a Monday morning tweet calling her "out of control, except for her control of Nancy" Pelosi.

Later Monday, Trump announced he was heading to "the Great State of Minnesota!".

Yet Omar's comments about U.S. political backing for Israel being fuelled by money from a pro-Israel lobbying group led to criticism from both sides of the political aisle.

"I don't think any president of the United States should use the tragedy of 9/11 as a political tool", Pelosi said. "Far too long we have lived with the discomfort of being a second-class citizen, and frankly, I'm exhausted of it, and every single Muslim in this country should be exhausted of it", Omar said at the event.

The Minnesota branch of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), a Muslim civil rights and advocacy group, responded to Trump's attacks by organizing the rally, where people carried signs and chanted in support of Omar. It was actually founded in 1994.

The video, with footage of planes hitting the twin towers in the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center, featured Ms Omar referring to it by saying "some people did something".

Mr Trump captioned his tweet with: "WE WILL NEVER FORGET!" Democrats who criticized the president over the tweet defended Omar, with some noting their past disagreements with her.

It did not give the full context of her comments in a speech, which were about Muslims feeling their civil liberties had been eroded since the atrocities in 2001.

In Minnesota, Trump kept his remarks at a trucking company in Burnsville mostly focused on the 2017 GOP-passed tax cut.

"I will do everything in my power, and I hope that every member of Congress will fight not only anti-Semitism, but racism and anti-Muslim activity so that we create a non-discriminatory society", Sanders said.

He next played a clip of Trump in 2016 saying "Islam hates us" and read a quote from the New York Times'Maggie Haberman suggesting Trump is intentionally trying to make Omar "an enemy among enemies" as the 2020 campaign heats up and identify all Democrats with Omar's arguable "poor choice of words".

However, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey told Congress past year that Twitter should've acted faster to remove a doctored image that had appeared on the site the previous week, following Sen.

Omar's broader speech had condemned the increase in hate and threats to Muslims' safety in the U.S.in the wake of the September 11 attacks. "We all as Americans should say that is outrageous and unacceptable".

Earlier this month a man was charged with threatening to kill Ms Omar over her Muslim faith.

"Please America do something, Transgender people are under attack, women are under attack", she wrote on Twitter and on Facebook adding that she is concerned about Omar's safety in the wake of Trump's tweet.

"For too long we have lived with the danger of being a second-class citizen, and frankly, I'm exhausted of it".
