Paris' Notre Dame cathedral on fire

A cathedral spokesperson said the fire was first reported at 5.50pm GMT and the building was evacuated. The cathedral was undergoing repairs, as its roof and spire were in scaffolding. Construction workers had removed numerous bronze statues inside the church before the fire for renovation, which included work on the now-destroyed spire.

A cathedral spokesman has said the entire wooden interior of the Notre Dame is burning and likely to be destroyed. "Please respect the security perimeter". Some construction company is about to go out of business for one of the most historic tragedies. It is one of the largest religious buildings in the world. "It's getting worse. But the fire brigade has turned up".
