"I was struggling the last 40 laps", Truex admitted.

Jones' failed inspection moves Kurt Busch up to the front row to start alongside Harvick in the second position.

Harvick was sixth in the first round, second to Kyle Busch in the second round and first with the pole at stake. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver led the next 63 laps but gave up the lead to Logano with six laps to go in Stage 2, and Logano went on to win the stage.

"I was just really just managing the fall-off and just trying to be consistent with the laps, but stickers (new tires) were definitely faster in the first round than they were in the second and third round".

Joe Gibbs Racing drivers have won five of the first eight races of the season with Kyle Busch winning three and Denny Hamlin two. He has recorded only seven top 10 finishes there. "It's a father-daughter year so we're looking to end up in that winner's circle together". "I saw them coming off the corner sideways every time".

John Force has a record 16 Funny Car season titles. We're one big family. "I've really enjoyed this track". He won from the pole past year. "It is certainly the home track for me but it's just exciting because I know that I could very well have a great weekend ahead of us, really focus a lot of my efforts on how can we go out there and dominate the race, not just win, but dominate". The Andretti Autosport driver scored victories in three of the four times he's started an IndyCar race out front.

The auto owner was visibly upset when Dixon's rookie teammate Felix Rosenqvist crashed during the second round of qualifying.

On Lap 127, Larson had a tire go down and hit the Turn 1 wall to bring out a caution. The new post-race inspection process was also created to deal with potential violations more promptly, avoiding any midweek news that might cloud the previous week's results or the build-up to the following week's event.

FORMULA ONE: Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas and Ferrari rival Sebastian Vettel led Friday's practice sessions for the Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai.

Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel will third with teammate Charles Leclerc alongside on the second row from Saturday's qualifying.

"If we can win three in a row here at Richmond and match names like that - the Godfathers of our sport that built our sport to what it is today - would be pretty cool", he said. "We didn't have speed tonight but the weeks that we've got speed we still run into issues so I hate the start to the season I've had but hopefully this break to the season came at a good time and we can regroup and try to come back better with some better luck".
