"CNN Tonight" anchor Don Lemon took some shots at top White House adviser and first daughter Ivanka Trump on Friday night, questioning if she had "any relevance" and asserting that she had no accomplishments of note. "I've seen her under tremendous stress and pressure", he was quoted as telling The Atlantic.

Mr Trump in the interview said that he has thought of his daughter, who works in the White House as an assistant to the president, for several different positions, including United Nations ambassador, but has been dissuaded because of the appearance of nepotism, he said in the interview. "She reacts very well - that's usually a genetic thing, but it's one of those things, nevertheless", Trump said.

But Stephanie Grisham, a spokeswoman for the first lady, added: "They've always shared a close relationship and still do today".

During an interview with The Atlantic for a new in-depth piece on Ivanka Trump's transition from NY high society to "playing government" in the White House - as former Chief of Staff John Kelly referred to her role in the administration - Trump praised Ivanka Trump as his "heir apparent", in The Atlantic's words.

Ivanka Trump lifted her hands, astonished. "If she wanted to ever run for President, she would be hit very, very hard", he says.

I asked why he didn't nominate her. Donald Trump also flew Maples to the mountain resort town, where she stayed in a penthouse.

"She went into the whole helping-people-with-jobs, and I wasn't sure that was going to be the best use of her time, but I didn't know how successful she'd be", Trump said.
