Tattoo ink recalled for bacterial contamination concerns

- The Food and Drug Administration has issued a recall for certain tattoo inks because they are contaminated with bacteria.

Dynamic Color: Two lots, 12024090 and 12028090, of black tattoo ink made by Dynamic Color. Additionally, they reviewed surveys of the products and their respective "microbiological analysis".

It said six inks manufactured by Scalp Aesthetics, Dynamic Color and Color Art could be contaminated with microorganisms that can be risky when injected into the skin.

They did have the Dynamic black ink, but tattoo artist Nicki Ninteman said, "We checked all the lot numbers and all of ours are clean, so we're good".

The bacteria could lead to infection and serious health injuries if injected into the skin.

Solid Ink-Diablo (red) tattoo ink manufactured by Color Art Inc. Additionally, they described potential symptoms, noting that they can often be confused with other things, such as allergic reactions, making ink-related infections easy to misdiagnose.

"Consumers who have experienced symptoms of infection or an injury after administration of a tattoo should consult their healthcare professional and inform their tattoo artist", the statement said.
