Cup race at MI postponed because of rain

Sunday's race at Michigan International Speedway was postponed because of rain.

The National Weather Service has rain at a 60% chance at the scheduled race time of 2 p.m. ET.

The 36 drivers who were set to compete in the FireKeepers Casino 400 took to the track for the pace laps in attempt to get the race underway after the initial rain delay, but the pace auto ended up leading them back down pit lane, much like what it did on Sunday, May 5 at Dover International Speedway before that race was postponed. Drivers were in their cars and running behind the pace vehicle, and had been given the one-to-go sign ready to start the race around 3 p.m. ET when the rain began.

The field was brought back down pit road and NASCAR continued working to dry the track, but another storm shortly after 4 p.m. ended any hope of getting the race in Sunday afternoon.

About an hour after it was supposed to start, the cars were on the track, and the beginning of the race appeared imminent.

As the trailer says, when humans are in trouble they look to the gods, but when the gods are in trouble, they look to you. There's quite a bit to this, so have a read of the FAQ for a full rundown on the Assassin's Creed Odyssey story creator.

It wasn't the first rain delay NASCAR drivers had to endure. Clint Bowyer won a rain-shortened race last June at MIS.

Team Penske's Joey Logano is set to start this race from the pole position in his #22 Ford alongside Stewart-Haas Racing's Aric Almirola in second in his #10 Ford.

Detroit Lions coach Matt Patricia, the race's grand marshal, gave the command for drivers to start their engines, but the race wasn't able to start after that.

It's the third time a Cup Series race at MIS has been postponed to Monday. Kevin Harvick and Clint Bowyer won the two Cup races at MIS past year. All drivers earning series points are eligible and drivers who win one of the three races receive a $50,000 bonus.
