Memphis protests over police shooting end with teargas and dozens injured

According to the bureau, multiple officers with the Marshals Service Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force clashed with a man wanted on multiple warrants around 7 p.m. local time Wednesday. According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, the man resisted arrest and "reportedly rammed his vehicle into the officers' vehicles multiple times before exiting with a weapon".

"The officers fired striking and killing the individual", according to the TBI. "No officers were injured". Family members confirmed to the Daily Memphian that 21-year-old Webber died.

Lastly, he said the violence against officers and media and property damage were unacceptable and could not be tolerated.

The shooting prompted angry reactions in his neighborhood, where the mayor says protesters threw rocks and spit on Memphis police officers.

A person named Ronni Williams claiming to be Webber's cousin took to Twitter to defend him as an "honor student" who should not be labeled as a "drug dealer".

The TBI says Webber was shot by federal marshals who were trying to arrest him on multiple felony warrants Wednesday evening.

Police were called to the area for crowd control after news of the shooting circulated online.
