Though Gears 5 isn't going to launch on September 10th with a battle royale mode, one of the game's developers at The Coalition said in a recent GameSpot interview that it's possible that the mode could be added post-launch. And for those Xbox One players who are anxious about playing ranked against those using a mouse and keyboard, Cleven also confirmed 'For the launch of Gears 5, Xbox players will be able to opt-out of matchmaking against PC players for ranked matches'.

"For the launch of Gears 5, Xbox players will be able to opt-out of matchmaking against PC players for ranked matches", Cleven said. This is due to the fidelity of keyboard and mouse controls being seen as an advantage over controllers. In a competitive environment, an even playing field is ideal.

Gear 5's versus multiplayer tech test is starting now, and The Coalition released two new videos providing more insight and showing gameplay.

A Gears 5 multiplayer tech test will run this weekend.

Gears 5 will run a Technical Test, or a beta, this week and next week for anyone who has preordered the game or has a current Xbox Game Pass subscription. The client is already available to download for Xbox One and PC, and now the studio has confirmed exactly when the servers go live. Also included will be the single-player Boot Camp, a training mode. You must either pre-order the game or subscribe to Xbox Game Pass (standard or Ultimate) to try out the game.
