Dharmasena came under the spotlight after he gave a decision against Jason Roy in the Cricket World Cup semifinal.

Sri Lanka's Kumar Dharmasena and South Africa's Marais Erasmus will be the two on-field umpires for the World Cup final, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said in a statement on Friday.

The incident occurred during the 19th over of England's innings when Roy showed his dissent at being given out.

Roy was the star of the show in England's blistering run chase as it charged into a World Cup decider for the first time since 1992, obliterating the Aussies by eight wickets in a one-sided show at Edgbaston.

However, since Jonny Bairstow had already used up the review unsuccessfully, Roy could not.

Roy was found to have breached Article 2.8 ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to showing dissent at an umpire's decision in an global match.

Roy's tirade at the umpires, in which he labelled the decision as a "f--ing embarrassment" resulted him being fined 30 percent of his match fee, but Cowan wanted a harsher penalty. They will take on New Zealand at Lord's on Sunday. "He won't face any suspension". Dar had previously officiated in two World Cup finals (2007 and 2011) and was awarded ICC umpire of the year for three consecutive years (2009, 2010 and 2011).

However, the umpire also holds an unwanted record involving England.

England head coach Trevor Bayliss knows his side must shut out the noise of an expectant nation as they prepare for a first World Cup final in 27 years.

He has passed 50 in five of his six innings, including a punishing 153 against Bangladesh, and was on course for another century in the semi-final before he was wrongly given out caught behind by umpire Kumar Dharmasena for 85.

All the officials appointed for the final were also selected for either of one of the semi-finals.
