Dressed as Bowie's fantastic sci-fi alter ego, Ziggy Stardust, Barbie® wears the iconic metallic "space suit" with red and blue stripes and flared shoulders, and Bowie's signature cherry-red platform boots.

Barbie received a new addition to its line-up on Friday, with the United States toymaker Mattel presenting a doll dedicated to the androgynous alien messenger Ziggy Stardust, a character created by late musician David Bowie.

The singer, who died in 2016, had said that his classic 1969 single "Space Oddity" was inspired by filmmaker Stanley Kubrick's epic film "2001", which was released a year earlier.

He pledged to help farmers largely impacted by the China-U.S. trade war and those whose crops were destroyed due to flooding. Envoys talked by phone Tuesday in their first contact since Trump and Xi met in Japan, the Chinese Commerce Ministry said.

The toy manufacturer have released a series of pictures of the doll which comes complete with red hair, metallic jumpsuit and Ziggy make-up. Additional details include makeup - featuring Ziggy's astral sphere forehead icon - and a bright red hairstyle similar to that made famous by the singer.

As for the pun in the headline - David Bowie, Barbie, Bowbie.

The brains behind Barbie, toymaker Mattel, said the doll is created to honor the "pioneer of sound and vision, English singer, songwriter and actor, whose dramatic musical transformations continue to influence and inspire". "Space Oddity" is also being treated to a 50th anniversary box set to mark its anniversary.
