After heading into Sunday's match down two points, the Americans picked up a point in morning foursomes and then trounced Great Britain and Ireland, taking eight of 10 singles matches for a 15 1/2-10 1/2 victory at Royal Liverpool Golf Club.

Nathaniel Crosby's side were 7-5 down after the first day of play but responded magnificently on day two to clinch the morning foursomes 2½-1½ and the afternoon singles 8-2 to run out comfortable winners.

The Americans won two of three matches and tied the other in foursomes.

Hammer was 3 up through six holes on his way to a 6-and-5 victory over Conor Purcell.

The U.S. improved to 37-9-1 overall in the Walker Cup.

Team USA won for the first time away from home since 2007 at Royal County Down.

John Pak completed a flawless week and John Augenstein delivered the clinching point as the American rallied from a two-point deficit Sunday and won the Walker Cup for the first time away from home in 12 years.

Fitzpatrick had raised home hopes by moving two up on Salinda, only to lose the next three holes in succession, although Sloman had recovered from an early deficit to lead Fisk by two holes in the final match.

John Augenstein hit back for team United States of America with a 2&1 win over Conor Purcell taking it to 4-3 in the match overall.

"It really doesn't matter who clinches it", said Augenstein, lost to Andy Ogeltree of Littlerock, Miss., 2 and 1, last month in the United States Amateur final at Pinehurst No. 2.

John Pak and Brandon Wu levelled up the match, with Pak defeating Amateur champion James Sugrue by a single hole and Wu easing to victory over Tom Sloman 4&2.

GB&I captain Watson, who played in the same team as Justin Rose, when he became the youngest-ever to play in the Walker Cup in 1997, said: "It was a pretty good day".

"I honestly thought that these guys would let their talent come to the surface", said USA captain Nathaniel Crosby. Pak made it 3-0 for the week with a 2-and-1 victory over Euan Walker.

As for the presence of his brother, Fitzpatrick added: "I saw him sneak under the ropes on one of the tees and I was tempted to go and tell him to get back with everyone else but I let him off with that one".
