"I think the most important thing for me is to be the best version of myself, to show what I can do, to implement, to win and to work at a high level", said Hurts on Monday during the Senior Bowl introductory news conference at the Renaissance Riverview Plaza Hotel in Mobile. I always meet with all the players when they get back to school, after the season, and I meet with them after spring practice. Go out there and try to win, try to lead my guys, build relationships with my guys.

Jalen Hurts went 38-4 in his career as a starter. Then he was benched at halftime of the national championship game against Georgia, with Tagovailoa leading the comeback victory and ultimately winning the starting job for the 2018 season.

In addition to Justin Herbert from OR and Steven Montez from Colorado, Hurts, as one of three quarterbacks on the South List, also has the opportunity to stand on the sidelines with several former teammates from Alabama and some well-known faces from rival Auburn.

Hurts ended up losing the starting job to Tagovailoa in his junior season and threw only 70 passes (completing 51 of them), so he made a decision to transfer to Oklahoma for his senior season. "So he's been a great recruiter, a great ambassador for the program and came off the field because of injury situations to him - a bad knee, a bad hip, spent two years pretty much trying to get healthy". He finished the season with 3,851 yards, 32 TDS, and 8 INT.

"Those are things that we get a chance now to see in person". He certainly had a great college career. Get to know the kid a little bit more. "He had some really good games earlier this year and he sees the field a lot better than ever, and I think that has to do with the experience he has gained in the position with anyone".

But also an uncertain one.

"Jalen has come a long, long way", said Nagy. "He really has", the former scout said. He's blown that out. "He's come so far". Determined to prove critics wrong, he's sporting more than a chip on his shoulder.

That's why he said he carries a "boulder" on his shoulder.

"There's a lot of guys playing in the National Football League now that are having a lot of success that are similar style players to Jalen, guys that can make plays with their feet, and I think you know who they are", Saban said Wednesday while talking to reporters during Wednesday's South Team practice.

"I don't think there is any experience that I would go back and exchange or change", Hurts said. It's all happened how it's supposed to. "I think that success of those players has kind of broken the stereotype of (teams requiring quarterbacks) to be a drop-back passer".
